Our History – Our Journey
After becoming a follower of Jesus Christ, I began to attend several local churches. I found that the churches I attended were not safe places where I could continue my journey in spiritual matters. They were uncomfortable with my questions and I was unsatisfied with their answers. I did not fit in the church so I left it for a number of years and became involved with a small group of believers seeking to know God more through studying the Bible. This was a safe place to continue my journey. In 1988 I married Amy. We believed we needed a local church where we could use our gifts to serve others. We began to attend a church and immediately began leading a small group of young couples. It was a joy to be able to create an environment where people could be real and ask relevant questions that allowed them to grow in their knowledge and relationship with God. It was during this time that I began my teaching career. I taught for 7 years in the public school system (4th and 6th grades mostly). As I tried to serve him at school and in the local church God worked in my life. Through a number of circumstances and the convicting of the Holy Spirit, I left teaching to attend seminary and start vocational ministry as a pastor. My desire after seminary was to create a local church that had the safe environment of a small group. This provided the opportunity for people to come as they are and experience God and the love and care of others. Amy in her infinite wisdom said ‘no’ to the church start (we had a 7 year old, a 4 year old and a 6 month old). Upon completion of seminary, I went to a church in Washington to serve as an associate pastor. Again, I was able to help develop small groups that were safe places for people to journey and grow in their relationship with God and others. It was amazing how God used the small groups to change the lives of the people involved. We have many stories from these small groups of growth and service. Now we find ourselves in Aurora with the desire and challenge of beginning a new church. Our desire is for it to be a safe place for you and others to continue your journey through life to a more intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. |
